Does wireless need a telephone line?
No, you can surf the web and download e-mails at the same time you are using the phone.
You can have access to the Internet at locations that don’t have telephones such as dairy sheds etc.
Can I buy my own equipment.?
Yes, because the network will use a standard wireless frequency. Users can opt to buy their equipment from who ever they choose or Amuri.net. You will need a wireless client radio, cables and antenna. A network card may be required in your computer. It will need to have the correct power requirements to work well.
Can I install my own equipment?
Yes, we will have instructions. You will however need a bit of networking knowledge and right tools.
Do you need to see the antenna site to connect?
Yes, line of sight is needed. Trees, hills and other obstacles will reduce the signal strength.
However sometimes it will work without LOS.
Where are the antenna sites?
The sites have a low visual impact because they utilize small antennae so contact us so we can assist in determining if the service is available to you.
How fast can wireless work?
Up to 11Mb/s Even at the slowest speed 1Mb/s it will be 17 times faster than a 56k dial up connection.
NOTE Internet access and LAN speed will be limited to the various plans on offer.
Can people hack wireless systems?
They may try but the use of security features will prevent unauthorized access.
The use of firewall software on your computer or a firewall box if you have a network will protect your computer(s). Most modern anti virus software comes with firewall protection. Some of this software is free. Windows XP has it built in.
We also have access restrictions so only registered uses can access the service.
Do you offer POP e-mail accounts?
A 10MB mail box with features such as remote access so you can check it anywhere around the world. Chances are you can keep your existing e-mail account with your current ISP and pay only a small monthly fee to have it, then forward it to your new address. There are also providers such as Hotmail. If you have a specific requirement call.
What if I move house?
Just take the equipment with you. Just make sure you can see the antenna site. Or transfer ownership to the new occupant.
What else can the wireless network be used for?
You will be able to use it to connect computers at two different locations. Use IP technology devices to control pump stations dairy sheds and so forth. Because the network is very flexible almost anything is possible.
